February of my sophomore year of high school, I begged and begged my mother to take me to see Baylor Sing. I had just found a bunch of old videos (vhs tapes lol) of my parents in the 80’s killing it on Waco Hall Stage and I just had to go see what the hype was about. Singing and dancing for 7 minutes in front of the entire student body plus alumni? Sounds intimidating to a girl who loves to be backstage. But there would be no harm in checking it out right?
Well, I fell in love. With Sing, with Baylor, and with Chi Omega. Watching that group of girls just look like they were having the time of their lives with their friends looked like so much fun. I had to be apart of that camaraderie, those friendships, that sisterhood. I knew it must have taken hours upon hours of practice, sweat, and exercise (ew), but the look of genuine joy on their faces was just different than any other group I saw that night. I knew that even though putting on a 7 minute show with costumes and lights and music and dancing and backdrops and props was not a walk in the park, the smiles on their faces and the pride for their act just made me want to be a part of it.
I have gone to Sing every year since my sophomore year in high school- and every year, that same feeling of wanting to belong to that group of Chi Omegas who were having a blast came surging back. And finally, last fall during Pigskin I got to shake my groove thing as a yellow lunch lady in Chi O’s 3rd place act- Lunch Lady Land and this past spring, I was able to wear ear muffs and furry boots and jam out as an Eskimo in Chi O’s 3rd place act- Ice Ice Baby. I cannot wait to see what is in store for Sing 2018 and I am so excited to be able to dance with my sisters once again on that Waco Hall Stage.
