Make-A-Wish: Lauren Knapton

It is an honor and privilege that Baylor Chi Omega gets to partner with Make-A-Wish® North Texas. I have been able to personally see the immense effect that the Wish Granting process has on such deserving families—this organization serves as a source of joy and hope for many! Make-A-Wish® North Texas has certainly acted as a cause for joy in my own life as well!

It has been a blessing to get to communicate with different Waco families through my position as philanthropy chair for this year. At our Walk-A-Thon in March, we celebrated with two families who had just been told that they would get a wish granted soon! In addition, during our Chili Cook Off event (this upcoming Friday), we will celebrate with these same kids who have now seen their wishes come true, as well as with other families who have had their lives touched by Make-A-Wish. These families mean the world to me and to Baylor Chi Omega!

The influence of Make-A-Wish in my own life extends far beyond this year! When I was a freshman in high school, one of my best friends was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at just 14 years old. Sometime in the next few years of that journey, Make-A-Wish® North Texas granted my friend Taylor a wish! Her family of four got to take the trip of a lifetime to Italy. Taylor talked about this trip often, and I know that it was a bright spot for her! I am thankful for the ways this organization cared for my friend.
